New Zealand/British Tenor Aidan Thomas Phillips is an alumus of the Alexander Gibson Opera School at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, studying under Iain Paton. Aidan was a student at the New Zealand Opera School (2020-2022), and studied both his undergraduate and postgraduate degrees at the University of Waikato Conservatorium of Music where he was the recipient of a Sir Edmund Hillary Scholarship, and graduated in 2023 with BMus (Hons) and MMus (Hons) in Classical Vocal Performance. In the 2024/25 season Aidan will debut the roles of Filippo (L’infedelta delusa/RCS),  Tamino (Die Zauberflöte/RCS), Ismaele (Nabucco/Tayside Opera), Don José (Carmen/Clyde Opera Group) and Vítek (Več Makropulos/Regents Opera), and covering Leukippos (Daphne/Edinburgh Players Opera Group)

Aidan transitioned from High Baritone to Tenor in 2023 and is excited for all of the new roles and challenges this will present.

Aidan's operatic roles include Idomeneo (Idomeneo/RCS), Guglielmo (Così fan tutte/Berlin Opera Academy), Marco/Schicchi (Gianni Schicchi/University of Waikato), Adult Albert/Will (Flowing Waters - World Premiere CD Recording/Atoll Records)

Performances in Scenes at RCS include Pelléas (Pelléas et Melisande), Die Hexe (Hänsel und Gretel), Lysander (A Midsummer Night‘s Dream), Scaramuccio (Ariadne auf Naxos), Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmélites) and Idomeneo (Idomeneo).

Oratorio credits include J.S. Bach's Johannes-Passion BWV (Evangelist/Tenor Solos), Karl Jenkins' The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace, Handel's Messiah, Brockes-Passion, Utrecht Te Deum & Jubilate, Haydn's Seven Last Words of Christ, Missa in Tempori Belli, and Rossini's Petite Messe Solenelle.

Also an avid Musical Theatre performer, Aidan's roles include Jamie Wellerstein (The Last Five Years/Tauranga Musical Theatre) and Phantom (The Phantom of the Opera/Theatre Whakatane Inc.) - for which he won Best Actor in a Musical at the 2021 Zony Awards.
